Johannesburg/Jozi t-shirts...

It's been some time since my last post and there is every chance this effort will be once again be short lived. But I have been inspired to reinvigorate some writing after my sisters concerted efforts over the last few months at: http://theuyshuis.blogspot.com/

So it's only appropriate that my first post be about t-shirts - there have been many since my last post, but I'll stick to those purchased in Johannesburg, my new home for now. There is two (at least) distinct sides to Johannesburg... One is represented by the new CBD that is Sandton and this is epitomised by the Sandton City chopping mall and adjoining Nelson Mandela Square, Convention Centre, office buildings and 4-5 star hotels. These two tees were purchased in the above mentioned mall from a store typical of the international brands available.

Now onto the original CBD - deep dark Jozi! A place that many locals have not been in many years (think 15-20+). It is a place that is not only full of history but is a place of hope where a rejuvenation and (for lack of a better word) gentrification is occurring which is turning what was once one large squatter camp into the place to be and be seen. So these next two were bought at the previously hipster enclave but now fast approaching main stream area of Maboneng. These are locally designed and produced by a guy who sells out of shipping container in the Main Street Bizarre. A collection of shipping containers featuring clothing, a barber, jeweler and an upholsterer who'll update your office chair to leopard print.

Hopefully this is the start of many more posts, covering the last year in South Africa and the times to come.
